Needle Tech, a four-pattern collection from Tandus Flooring, has won the Best of Year Award for Broadloom Carpet in Interior Design’s 2012 Product Competition. The collection, which also won a Best of NeoCon Gold and IIDEX Gold Innovation Award this year, projects a highly textural, hand-stitched look that responds to today’s nostalgia for handmade craftsmanship. Similar to the hand-crafted construction of needlepoint, crochet and traditional Japanese origami, Needle Tech is familiar, sculptural and elegant. Tandus Flooring explored new yarn processing and tufting techniques to create the aesthetic, which mimics the appearance of cut/uncut pile on a 100% solution-dyed, loop-pile construction. Needle Tech uses Tandus Flooring’s Dynex SD Lustre, the commercial carpet industry’s first high-luster solution-dyed fiber, and combines it with the lower luster levels of Dynex SD to further the handmade appearance.
“We are honored by the Best of Year Award and the attention Needle Tech has received in the design community,” said Terry Mowers, Tandus Flooring Chief Creative Officer. “The collection appeals to our innate appreciation for hand-crafted textiles, providing classic detailing and texture that will perform in even high-traffic environments.”
