Orcon said it plans to exit the flooring industry after
close to 40 years and will shut down its flooring installation products
division by May 22. The company noted it will refocus on its aerospace
division, which makes reinforced films, tapes, and thermal/acoustic insulation
components and fabricated systems for the aerospace, transportation and
industrial markets.
Bob Zajdel, Orcon’s vp and general
manager, said the company is looking at ways to transition out of the flooring installation
systems business. “The Orcon Products Corp. (carpet tapes and tools) will
probably be sold to a competitor or another interested company,” he said.
Orcon was founded in 1962 by Hollis Bascom,
Orcon’s CEO and president. The Union City, Calif.-based company launched its
Carpet Seaming Tape Division in 1970, where it developed its first hot melt
carpet seaming tape. Today known as the Floor Covering Installation Systems
Division, the business unit is an industry leader in carpet seaming tape and
tools.-Michael Chmielecki
