Gum briefly left Misco to become vice president of Sales for the J.J. Haines floor covering distributorship. Haines is located near Baltimore, an area where Gum was raised and where he still has family.
In 2001, while president of Misco, Gum oversaw the company's transition from a traditional multi-warehouse distributor to a hub-and-spoke model with expanded facilities in Bolingbrook, Ill. and Cincinnati.
"Before, most of my time was spent in operations and administration," Gum explained. "Now, with service levels being very high, the real opportunity for Misco's future growth lies in sales and marketing — two areas that I enjoy the most.
“Misco is positioning itself to meet the challenges of the future and it has the financial resources to make that happen,” Gum added. “I'm really looking forward to getting back on board."
Misco has been developing several new programs in wood and other "new flooring categories" which it hopes to unveil in the next two to three months. "Having Randy on board will make the launch of these new programs much more manageable," Gould said. "He knows this company inside and out and will make an immediate impact implementing these programs."
Misco is one of the nation's largest floor covering distributors. Founded in 1912, the company just celebrated its 90th year in business.
