This year at NeoCon, Mohawk Group will be debuting new collections designed to achieve the stringent requirements of Living Product Challenge Petal Certification. The creation and specification of these carbon-neutral floor coverings has a net positive impact for people and the environment, through innovations in materials, manufacturing, and community involvement, including special partnerships with Hampton University and Groundswell. These collections are truly sustainable, leaving a handprint rather than a footprint by giving more resources back to the environment than they use during their entire life cycle.
Nutopia is designed to achieve petal certification by meeting stringent requirements for the Living Product Challenge. Created to transition across the floor or create defined areas in the built environment, Nutopia’s four styles can be used together as a cohesive system, or separately depending on the desired configuration, end use, and budget. Layouts can be subtle or vivid and dramatic. Urban Passage is a large-scale gestural wash of texture and color in a cool grey or warm taupe base. This style can serve as the connector or transition to a coordinating textural ground, Urban Field, and an even more pronounced accent, Urban Fringe. Urban Canvas features a flat loop construction in all heathered yarns, serving as a versatile ground texture for large, open plan areas.
Complementing Mohawk Group’s new Nutopia carpet plank collection, Nutopia Matrix presents two lower-profile flat loop 12x36 in. patterns, also inspired by the idea of “urban fabric.” These Living Product Challenge Petal certified carpet planks are manufactured with a mix of heathered and solid Duracolor solution-dyed nylon yarns to emphasize depth of pattern. Urban Transit has an active, shifting pattern, while Urban Terrain offers an overall gestural pattern.
Each carbon-neutral Nutopia Matrix plank features Mohawk Group’s newest generation of Red List-free carpet tile backing. Using advanced materials and patent- pending engineering, EcoFlex, Matrix lowers environmental impact without sacrificing performance. The sustainable backing is dematerialized to use fewer raw materials and energy in order to minimize the product’s footprint.
