Mohawk Industries Inc. announced that W. L. Ross & Co. and Mohawk were successful in their bid for substantially all of the assets of Burlington Industries Inc.
Surfaces 2004, which will take place Jan. 28-30 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, Las Vegas, is 80 percent sold out, according to Hanley-Wood, with an additional 30,000 square feet of exhibit space being used over last year's show.

Sales of existing single-family homes eased slightly last month but were still at one of the strongest
levels on record, according to the National Association of Realtors.
The Commerce Department has reported that sales of new
single-family homes rose 4.7 percent to a record 1.160 million annual rate,
surprising analysts who had expected sales to slip to a 1.120 million rate.

Co. LLC by which Ross' $608 million acquisition proposal has been designated the best of several bids received in connection with the sale
process approved last May by the court in its reorganization proceedings.
The Commerce Department reported that new orders
for durable goods -- costly manufactured products expected to last at least
three years -- increased by a solid 2.1 percent in June from May.
