Creative Edge was the recipient of a Marble Institute of America (MIA) Pinnacle award for its “Spotlight on Times Square” project.

MIA Pinnacle Awards are given to projects whose beauty, creativity, ingenuity and craftsmanship exemplify professional mastery in the use of natural stone in commercial and residential environments, according to the institute. The award, which was for the “commercial exteriors” category, was presented to Jim Belilove, founder and president of Creative Edge, by Tony Manisali, 2014 MIA president.

The project consisted of a large map with precision waterjet-cut pieces of solid granite and stainless steel, which was used for the letters in the map. One challenge was to make sure the 2-foot steel letters had “a non-slippery finish that would hold up with 375,000 people walking over it daily for the next 100 years. There were a surprising amount of details to be thought through when creating something like this," according to Belilove.
