The Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF) and the ACT Certification programs were on display in the Tile Expo area at the International Surface Event (TISE) in Las Vegas.

Installers taking both the certified tile installer program offered by CTEF and numerous advanced certifications in the ACT booth were observed by installer and distributor attendees.

National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) trainers Michael Whistler and Gerald Sloan were on the stage throughout the three-day show, in a specially designated tile education section sponsored by Dal-Tile. Whistler and Sloan covered installation topics including glass tile installations, substrate preparation, showers, large format tile and thin tile.

Prior to the show opening, NTCA held board and technical committee meetings, with several new programs and efforts addressed. The technical committee, which is responsible for the development and maintenance of the NTCA Reference Manual, will be developing new documents, to be released in the summer of this year. The board approved a working budget for the association and is developing both apprenticeship and training programs to be available to NTCA members later this year.

NTCA and CTEF also had members participate in the conference program—offering programs on project management, shower installations, avoiding joist failures, glass tile installations and utilizing technology in the field.

In addition to events at TISE, Bart Bettiga, NTCA's executive director, and Dan Welch, NTCA's chairman, participated in a roundtable discussion at the International Builders and Kitchen and Bath shows, which took place in the Las Vegas Convention Center. The shows, along with TISE, were part of Design and Construction Week.
