Installers have the opportunity to participate in one of the educational opportunities taught by the International Certified Flooring Installers Association's (CFI) team of industry professionals at The International Surfaces Event (TISE) in Las Vegas, Jan. 20 to 23.

The Woven and Patterned Carpet Workshop will share demonstrations and hands-on instruction for residential and commercial carpet applications. This will include pattern types; working with patterns out of tolerance; patterned carpet ordered incorrectly; identification of the weaves and the carpet backings; correct tools; seaming, stretching and adhesive skills applications in large modules; solving difficult seaming and pattern alignments; tackstrip; working with pattern repeats, pattern count, hook consideration and pattern loss; cutting windows and powerstretching.

The Resilient Workshop will present safety and product information, explanation of various types of resilient flooring, methods of installation for felt-backed products; embossing levelers; skim coating and patching; working with glass flooring; tile and plank layout; adhesives and open-time; repairs; seam treatments and sealers; recess scribe seams; installation of linoleum; heat welding and flash coving. Luxury vinyl tile flooring has many techniques for installation that will also be shared.

CFI Certification is available for those who successfully complete the course which requires two days and a minimum of two years of experience in the installation trade.

"In today’s world, installation training is critical," said a CFI representative. "It is the installer’s obligation to preserve the customer’s confidence throughout the installation period.  They complete the sale and can “sell” or “unsell” everything based on the quality of their work, attitude and the skills they possess.  In a very short time, unprofessional installers destroy future sales.   The CFI programs offer an opportunity to keep informed of the latest techniques, tools and products.  Performing today’s installation requirements with yesterday’s skills does not offer customer satisfaction."

The International Certified Flooring Installers Association (CFI) working with the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) has scheduled training and certification events nationwide.  Installers may attend CFI Certification or if lacking the required two years of experience, may attend the training only.  Space is limited due to the large modules and materials.

Registration is available at tisewest.com. Cost is $495 for the training and CFI Certification and $295 for verified WFCA members. Call (816) 231-4646 for additional information.
