The Green Building Initiative (GBI) is seeking applicants to serve as members of its consensus body, which is being formed to formally update its new construction assessment protocol, ANSI/GBI 01-2010: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings. The standard was originally completed in 2010 and must be updated every five years according to procedures established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

According to Vicki Worden, president of Camden, Maine, based Worden Associates, Inc., and secretariat for the GBI's standard development process, "Participation is open to any member of the public with appropriate expertise and experience. Membership in GBI is not required."

Applicants with expertise in any aspect of green building are sought not only for the main consensus body but to serve on technical subcommittees in areas including project management policies and practices, site development, energy, water, resources building materials and waste management, emissions and effluents and indoor environment.

"In 2010, the GBI became the first - and to date the only - commercial green building rating system developer to successfully take its flagship rating system through a full ANSI consensus process," stated Jerry Yudelson, president of the GBI. "This was a huge undertaking and an accomplishment on which we intend to build this year. The GBI is committed to the further development of its assessment protocols through ANSI's open and transparent consensus process."

To apply for participation on the consensus body, one or more subcommittees, or simply to register as a stakeholder to be kept informed of developments around the ANSI/GBI 01-2010 standard, interested individuals should complete the appropriate form located on GBI's website at http://www.thegbi.org/about-gbi/ANSI-accredited-standards-developer.shtml

Members of the public can also stay informed of progress on the standard by periodically reviewing the GBI website where all notices of public meetings and public comment periods will be posted.
