MAPEI is committed to the safety and environmental health of its employees throughout the company’s global infrastructure. One testament to this commitment is the certification of the MAPEI operations facility in Tempe, Ariz., by the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health's (OSHA) Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).
“We are extremely proud of our employees and our safety record,” said Al Fornaro, unit manager for Mapei’s Arizona operation. “When we were notified of our certification by the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Director Bill Warren gave us some startling facts that emphasized the significance of our accomplishment. He said there are 158,000 employers in Arizona, but only 26, including MAPEI , have achieved certification by the SHARP program.”
The Tempe, Ariz. plant joins MAPEI’s Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. plant, which achieved SHARP status in 2010.
One of the most important results of gaining SHARP recognition is creating a culture of safety. The benefits, as stated in the OSHA program, include:
- Creating a better working environment that is free of safety and health hazards;
- Boosting worker morale by involving workers in creating a culture that emphasizes a safe and healthful workplace;
- Improving communication among workers and management;
- Encouraging safety in the community as workers may transfer safe and healthy work practices outside of the workplace.
MAPEI is celebrating the SHARP certification with the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and OSHA representatives at the plant on Feb. 23.
