The National Wood Flooring Association’s Certified Professionals has announced a slate of wood flooring inspection workshops, Nov. 4-8 at its headquarters in Chesterfield, Mo. Expert instructors include Dan Hindman P.E., Ph.D. (Virginia Tech), Travis Snapp (Benchmark International), Dan Harrington (Galleher Hardwood Co.) and Cathy Duncan (EZ Report Writing).

The classes are:

Nov. 4: Utilizing Testing Labs will teach you how to commission your services when using an independent testing agency, weigh the options of lab testing, select appropriate testing resources, prepare samples for testing, and how to use this data in your report. Learn how to discern what needs to be proven, analyze cost versus effectiveness, and what common tests are used.

Nov. 5: Engineered Wood Flooring covers board construction and analysis, how different change coefficients of veneers and adhesives within the construction affect performance, peeled versus sliced veneers, splits, moisture testing, and common problems and their causes regarding engineered wood flooring.

Nov. 6: Bamboo delves into the biology and construction of bamboo, including a detailed analysis of the construction of cores, backing and wear layers, hot pressed versus cold pressed, and dimensional stability. Discuss bamboo flooring and moisture testing, common problems and their causes.

Nov, 7: Inspecting Sand & Finish covers common problems and causes of sand and finish issues, proper inspection procedures and maintenance. Attendees will also dissect common sanding and finish inspection scenarios and discuss lab testing.

Nov. 8: Report Writing details the “seven steps” for writing an effective report. Learn how to develop a report outline, arrange the information, use proper grammar, maintain objectivity and consistency, and properly use photographs to effectively support conclusions. The Code of Conduct will be defined in detail.
