Johnsonite, the commercial arm of Tarkett and provider of the world’s most integrated high-performance flooring systems, recently received two important product certifications for sustainable manufacturing, including NSF-332 Platinum level certification for the company’s iQ Natural Vinyl Flooring line, and NSF 332 Gold level certification for its Harmonium xf Linoleum Flooring line.
“Johnsonite was the first in the flooring industry to receive NSF 332 Platinum certification,” said Diane Martel, vice president, environmental planning and strategy for Tarkett North America. “Achieving an additional Platinum certification reflects the company’s rapid progress and ongoing commitment to sustainability.”
The NSF 332 certification process evaluates a product’s life cycle, from its inception to its repurposing or recycling. Using a point-based system, the NSF 332 standard measures six key areas: product design, manufacturing, long-term value, end-of-life management, corporate governance and innovation. When audited against the NSF 332 standard, a product may achieve up to 100 possible points. Based on point values, products can be awarded Conformant, Silver, Gold and Platinum level certifications.
Johnsonite is dedicated to creating sustainable products in an environmentally responsible manufacturing process. To date, Johnsonite has received several NSF Gold and Platinum certifications.
- NSF Platinum: Ecolibrium, iQ products (Optima, Granit, iQ Natural)
- NSF Gold: Circulinity, Folio, Mesto, Mesto Configurations, Prima Marbelized, Prima Olio, MicroTone and Solid Rubber Tile; Aria, Melodia and Contract Plus Vinyl Sheet & Tile; Harmonium xf Vento, Etrusco, Toscano, Allegro, Lenza and Tonali Linoleum, and Azrock VCT and TexTile VCT
In addition to NSF-332, Johnsonite products are manufactured in ISO 14001 facilities and are certified under FloorScore. The company’s popular linoleum is currently C2C silver and bio-preferred labeled. The breadth of certifications, ranging from material use to manufacturing conditions to end-of-use practices to occupant health, ensures customers that Tarkett is focused on every aspect of sustainable production.
The company is currently working toward their goal of having all product categories certified under the NSF 332 standard— which would be a first for the industry.
