The North American Association of Floor
Covering Distributors (NAFCD) has named Don Rado, former All Tile, Inc. CEO, as
its 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
The Lifetime
Achievement Award honors exceptional leadership or contributions that have led
to expanding the vision of the floor covering distribution industry.
"Don was
chosen for his lifelong commitment to advancing the industry and his support of
NAFCD over the years," said NAFCD president Fred Reitz. "We are
honored to have had him serve in several NAFCD leadership positions, including
president, and for his continued contributions to the organization."
Rado began his
career in the floor covering distribution industry, working for his father's
company, Rado's Floor Covering Co. Following his time at The Ohio State
University and in the U.S. Army, he returned to the industry, working for
Sandura Company (Sandura Floor Covering) and American Biltrite Rubber Co.
(Amtico Flooring Division). In 1975, he purchased All Tile, Inc., and as ceo,
he grew the company by adding coverage in 10 mid-western states. Before
retiring in 2002, he appointed his son-in-law Bob Weiss to CEO, who he was
"fortunate to have take over, as Bob continued to grow the company."
"Along with
the entire management group at All Tile, I can say that we were fortunate to
have been taught by one of the greatest thinkers in our industry," said
Weiss. "Don would always think we were not 'listening' to his
advice...What he didn't realize is that we all took notes, which allowed us to
grow All Tile in his image."
Although retired,
Rado is still involved with the company and industry. He works for All Tile,
Inc. as what he calls an "insultant," where he provides leadership
and guidance when needed. He also continues to remain active within NAFCD. His
primary occupation, however, is "aspiring golf professional."
"I joined
NAFCD years ago because of the opportunity to network and share success stories
with peers," said Rado. "It's most gratifying to be recognized by
those peers with the Lifetime Achievement Award. I am truly honored."
To receive the
award, an individual must have a minimum of 15 years experience in any field of
the floor covering distribution channel, such as manufacturer, distributor or
service provider. The individual must also have provided leadership, growth or
assistance in fostering the ideals and best practices in the floor covering
industry and has served in a position of leadership within an organization.
Nominations for the 2011 award will open mid-year of 2011.
Rado will receive
the Lifetime Achievement Award at the NAFCD General Breakfast & Member
Meeting, taking place November 17 at the inaugural 2010 NAFCD & NBMDA
Distributor Marketplace.
