Bona US’s recently launched Bona Traffic HD has received Greenguard’s highest certification, the Greenguard Children & Schools SM Certification. The Greenguard Children & Schools Certification standard process is highly critical and is designed to define low-emitting materials suitable for environments where people, particularly children and sensitive adults, spend extended periods of time.
“Our mission at Bona is to innovate products that care for floors as much as the environment,” said Gerald Thompson, director of operations and innovation, Bona US. “Passing the stringent Greenguard Children & Schools Certification is a testament to this commitment. This certification is 100 times more difficult to achieve due to the fact that each individual ingredient must be less than 1/100 of the corresponding OSHA recommended threshold limit value (TLV).”
Bona Traffic HD launched at this year’s National Wood Flooring Association Conference. This two-component, commercial waterborne finish offers 40 percent lower VOCs and noticeably lower odor, the company said. Bona is the first in its industry to carry a full system of hardwood floor finishing and floor care products Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified.
For products intended for use in schools, daycares or other environments where children spend significant periods of time, the Greenguard Children & Schools Certification Program offers stricter certification criteria. It is referenced by both The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Building Rating System. Products certified to this standard are also suitable for use in environments where children and others work, play or reside.
