Johnsonite, the commercial arm of Tarkett, has formed a partnership with Texas Carpet Recycling and Corporate Floors, a Texas commercial carpet landfill diversion company. Through this partnership, Texas Carpet Recycling will serve as the central collection point for Johnsonite’s ReStart Reclamation and Recycling program in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and will consolidate the company’s post-consumer vct and transport it to its Houston facility where it will be recycled into new product.
“As we continue to expand our sustainable efforts, this partnership can grow to include more Tarkett products,” said Gilles de Beaumont, president, Tarkett Commercial Tile.
Since its inception in 2000, the ReStart program has recycled over 900 million pounds of material both internally and externally, including 55 million pounds of post-consumer material diverted from landfills.
Thomas Holland, president of Texas Carpet Recycling and Corporate Floors noted, “We have seen a real need for VCT within the healthcare and education markets and with that, the demand to recycle post-consumer flooring has increased. Together with Johnsonite we can now offer the first large-scale recycling program for VCT flooring.”
“The Texas Carpet Recycling business model will help us achieve our goals regarding recycling installed floors. The team there has a real interest in environmental stewardship, which is essential to our value proposition,” added Diane Martel, vp environmental planning and strategy for Tarkett North America.
