Montana flooring retailer Pierce Flooring & Design, was recently honored with a 2009 EcoStar Pollution Prevention Award from Montana State University. Since 2008, the company has diverted more than 750,000 pounds of carpeting and carpet cushion from landfills. Additionally, Pierce has set a goal to recycle at least 1 million pounds of material in 2010.
“We are very pleased to have been recognized for this effort by the Governor [Brian Schweitzer]’s office,” Will Osborne, Pierce Flooring’s residential operations manager, told NFT. “We are also very excited about being able to divert such a large amount of material away from Montana landfills.” Pierce Flooring operates four retail stores and four carpet outlets in Montana.
The EcoStar awards program, now in its tenth year, recognizes Montana businesses and organizations that are surpassing state and federal requirements to reduce solid and hazardous waste generation. The program is funded in part by the EPA and headed by Montana State University Extension.
