Ending a protracted legal squabble, Faus and Unilin have
finalized a licensing deal that allows each company to use the other’s laminate
flooring technology. Specifically, Faus can now use Unilin’s glueless locking
system and Unilin can feature Faus’ surface technologies on its products.
Unilin, which Mohawk bought two years ago, is widely known for its Quick-Step
brand of laminate flooring.
The agreement marks the end of a
legal battle between the two companies over their product technologies. The
companies said the cross-licensing pact signifies “a mutually beneficial
conclusion” of patent disputes both in North America and Europe.
Faus and Unilin already
license their technologies to a number of major flooring manufacturers.
