December new construction spending jumps 1.2 percent
New construction spending jumped an unexpected 1.2 percent in December due to a surge in residential building, the Commerce Department reported.
The report said construction outlays rose to an $858.3 billion annual rate in the month, the highest since February.
The pace of residential construction spending, $434.6 billion, set a record for the second month in a row.
