Lyptus, which has never before been available in commercial quantities, is considered by many to be an ideal hardwood for building materials due to the species' extremely fast growth and full sustainability. The wood compares favorably in density and strength to oak and beech, Weyerhaeuser says.
Lyptus is cherry-toned in color. End-matched tongue-and-groove flooring is available in both 2 1/4- and 3-inch widths.
