T&J Flooring Owner Creates 'Construction Buddy' Tool to Solve Common Cutting Problems

Tim Mastin, owner, T&J Flooring, a 25-year flooring installer, designed the Construction Buddy out of necessity but realized it could benefit others.
After damaging multiple trash cans while cutting 4'x4' sheets of underlayment, he developed the first iteration of the Construction Buddy, using PVC pipes attached to the top of the trash can. However, it was not removable.
"I would just put the sheet on the trash can to make a cut, but at the same time, I would end up cutting up the can and destroying it," he said. "The can loses strength and rigidity."
He began working with CNC equipment and decided to revisit the Construction Buddy design. This time he was able to redesign it on a portable platform.
"I noticed a lot of flooring crews out in the field with the same problem, so the idea came to me and here it is: the Construction Buddy," Mastin said. "I realized this is a great concept that works anywhere, not just for flooring, but for any material."
The Construction Buddy is available in two sizes to fit a 44 gallon can or a 32 gallon can.
