Residential flooring pros are experiencing more than a month delay (4.4 weeks) before they can begin a new project, according to the Houzz Subcontractor Backlog Index, which showcases wait times in weeks before a company can start work on a new, midsize project.

Accompanying Houzz’s quarterly Renovation Barometer, which tracks backlogs among architectural, design and construction businesses, this first-ever report sheds light on the delays before subcontractors can begin work, including:

  • Masonry - 5.9 weeks

  • Cabinetry - 5.8 weeks

  • Tiling - 4.8 weeks

  • Painting - 4.2 weeks

“Labor shortages are a leading challenge among residential builders, remodelers and designers," said Marine Sargsyan, Houzz staff economist. "Houzz research shows a range of three to six before subcontractors can begin work on a new project, with the most significant backlogs among masonry and cabinetry services. These wait times highlight the need for careful planning and coordination to ensure timely project completion.”
