Jon Courtney Logue, 80, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away September 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.
Logue graduated from North Carolina State University in May of 1967 with a bachelor of science degree in textile chemistry. Soon after he was drafted into the U, Army where he proudly served his country in Vietnam from 1967-1969.
He received a master of business degree from Virginia Commonwealth in 1973.
Logue served in the carpet and flooring industry for over 50 years, beginning his career with Allied Chemical, Rohm and Haas. He was one of the co-inventors of ANSO IV nylon with Allied Chemical for which he received the Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Technical and Business Contribution. He came to Chattanooga with Salem Carpet Mills as vice president of sales and marketing. He worked with Mohawk Carpet Industries as senior vice president of marketing and product development. Soon thereafter in 1996 he cofounded Carpets Plus of America and Alliance Flooring, Inc., buying groups that serve specialty floor covering retailers. He served as co-owner and CO-CEO until his retirement in 2022.
Logue was a true gentleman and a very giving individual. He believed in education and has quietly afforded many the opportunity to attend college. He has three endowed scholarships at North Carolina State University. He was an avid tennis player lettering all four years at North Carolina State University. He won several local tennis tournaments and was ranked in the state in doubles. He was one match away from qualifying for the Senior Division of the US Open at Flushing Meadows. He was the proudest of winning the Men’s 35 Division of the TVI Doubles Tennis Tournament in 1993 at the age of 49 with his close friend, the late Wes Cash.
He was a member of the The Honors Course, NC State Wolfpack Club, Council Fire Golf Club and the Amelia Island Club/Long Point Golf Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Logue and his sister, Lynnsy Logue. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Logue; son, Kevin (Jenni) Logue; daughter, Kelly (Jim) Brexler; grandchildren, Ethan, Owen and Collin Logue, Jackson Manning, Anderson, Charley and Delaney Brexler; sister-in-law, Brenda (Victor) Graffeo; brother, Paul (Vickie) Logue.
A private graveside service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with his grandsons, nephew, and great-nephews serving as pallbearers. A Celebration of Life will be Friday, September 13th, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Council Fire Clubhouse, 100 Council Fire Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
