Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville, Alabama, has launched a pilot "Skills for Success—Flooring Installation Technician" course, marking the first program of its kind in the region. Offered at no cost to Alabama participants, the course is designed to prepare individuals for careers in flooring installation. It combines online learning with hands-on labs led by experienced professionals.

The program, supported by the Alabama State Legislature, ACCS Innovation Center, Floor Covering Education Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Labor, aims to bridge the skills gap in the industry and will eventually be available statewide through the Alabama Community College System. Applications are open until September 5, with the program concluding on October 11, 2024.

The course is divided into two parts: an online component and hands-on labs at Drake State, taught by experienced flooring professionals. Participants will earn a recognized credential and gain connections with local and regional employers to meet the rising demand for skilled flooring technicians.

Upon completion, the program will be available statewide through the Alabama Community College System.

"This program will facilitate job placement opportunities for these individuals, ensuring they have the skills and connections necessary to embark on successful careers in flooring installation," said Floor Covering Education Foundation Director of Operations Kaye Whitener.
