Flooring retailer Floor360 announced that a Design for a Difference makeover was completed at the Association for the Rights of Citizens with handicaps (ARCh), in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
During March and April, an all-volunteer group of interior designers worked with several local businesses, suppliers, installers, painters, and other volunteers to plan and provide a much-needed interior design makeover for the non-profit. The value of the makeover was over $59,000 which included almost 3,800 sq. ft. of flooring donations.
“The ARCh facility was dark, out of date and not optimized for people with mobility, sight, and sensory issues,” said ARCh Executive Director Jennifer Horth. “Now there are newly created spaces for soothing over-stimulation, wayfinding signs with braille, and a new lighter and accessible feeling that is felt all over the building.”
A team of interior designer volunteers managed the project. The team was led by Floor360 Kashou Design Studio manager Kelly Kuehn with interior designers from Floor360, AG Interiors and LaMacchia Group. The list of flooring donations for ARCh includes 213 sq. ft. of carpet tile from Shaw Floors, walk-off carpet from Tarkett, and Tarkett wall base provided by Jaeckle Distributors. Sherwin-Williams donated paint, OFR donated furniture, and the community donated floor installation, paint labor, demolition labor, Amazon wish list items and more.
To date there have been more than 500 Madison and Milwaukee volunteers and businesses involved in Design for a Difference makeovers with over $2 million in labor and materials donated, and over 70,000 individuals impacted.
