Vinyl flooring has gained ground for bathroom floors outside of the shower, according to the 2020 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study. The survey queried 1,600 U.S. homeowners using Houzz who are in the midst of, are planning, or recently completed a master bathroom renovation.
Eleven percent of renovators choose vinyl flooring outside the shower, up from 7% in 2019. Engineered wood remains steady at 3%, and wood increased one percentage point in 2020 as well. While ceramic or porcelain is the second favorite for outside shower walls, it’s losing ground in flooring outside the shower, down 4% from 2019, though it is still the most popular material there (59%). More than four in five renovating homeowners replace flooring and wall finishes outside of the shower area during a master bathroom renovation (83% each).
