Stoddard, N.H. -- Carlisle Wide Plank Floors partnered with Pickering House Inn, Wolfeboro, N.H., to handcraft wide plank flooring as part of the Inn's extensive renovation of the Pickering homestead. Built in 1813, the homestead was named to the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance's annual "Seven to Save" list of properties in desperate need of rescue. When it looked likely Pickering House would be demolished, local residents Peter and Patty Cooke purchased the property.

The Cookes invested more than two years planning the next chapter for Pickering House as a distinctive inn. Patty drew upon her expertise as founder of Wentworth Style, a home renovation design firm, to create a design that retained the structure's original architecture while adding modern features. When it came time to select the floors for the Inn, no species was more appropriate than Heart Pine, an American classic.

"We are fortunate to have been involved in this renovation,” said Chris Sy, president of Carlisle. “Our company was founded on restoration projects, from boutique inns to large residential homes, and maintaining the historical relevance of handcrafted wood floors is a cornerstone of our company."

The couple opted for 7-11 in. wide, prefinished Heart Pine floors from Carlisle Wide Plank Floors. Heart Pine is known for its rich coloring and unique place in history, from New England Colonial homes to industrial factories. The warm color tones paired with rustic knots and character create depth and vibrancy that brings the rooms to life. The result was a stunning floor that replicated wide planks that could have been found in the original tavern.

"When we renovated Pickering House, we wanted to retain the look and feel of the original 1813 property, while updating it for today's guests,” said Patty Cooke. “Carlisle's wide pine floors gave us the authentic historic look that we wanted, with the durability that we needed for a busy inn.
