Surya employees participated in the “March for Babies” 5K walk/run at Dellinger Park in Cartersville, Ga., to raise funds and awareness of the March of Dimes’ research in the prevention of birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality. Leading up to the event, over 200 Surya employees along with friends and family members donated $11,300 to multiple fundraisers.
“We are pleased to partner with the March of Dimes organization again this year,” said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. “As a recent father, I personally relate to and empathize with parents’ desire for smooth pregnancies and healthy deliveries. The March of Dimes’ research alongside its assistance to families of children born prematurely or with deficiencies represents incredibly important work and the Surya family fully supports and encourages it.”
Every year, 380,000 babies are born prematurely, and premature birth is still the leading cause of infant deaths. To decrease and resolve this issue, the March of Dimes has established five prematurity research centers across the country. In 2016 the March of Dimes “March for Babies” event raised close to $90 million in 500 communities in the U.S. The Northwest Georgia “March for Babies” raised $48,555 to date, with more donations still being submitted.
