Since its inception 50 years ago as the Western Floor Covering Association, the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) has played a vital role within the industry.
Every year, Coverings showcases the latest advances in ceramic technology and this year was no exception. From “bionic” tiles that respond to their environment to self-cleaning and anti-microbial tiles, Coverings 2009 offered a glimpse into the future at McCormick Place in Chicago from April 21-24.
Against a backdrop of
economic uncertainty, Surfaces 2009, held recently at the Sands Expo &

attendees and exhibitors alike.
A sharp increase in the number of distributors and contractors in attendance helped Coverings 2006 set an all-time attendance record of 33,649 for the four-day event.
The twin engines that drive the tile market-creativity and technology-will be the force behind many of the 1,100 manufacturers presenting their latest creations at Cevisama 2006, Feb. 7-11 in Valencia, Spain. This year, more than 90,000 visitors from 145 countries are expected to converge in the newly renovated and expanded Feria Valencia.
Cersaie 2004, the 22nd international exhibition of ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings, will take place Sept. 28 through Oct. 3 in Bologna, Italy. This year's show will be larger than the 2003 edition and will host a greater number of exhibitors than ever before. More than 100,000 buyers are expected this year and, to accommodate the ever-growing numbers, the Bologna exhibition center will be offering exhibitors the use of a new two-level hall (16 and 18) located alongside the recently opened hall 19 - 20.
The Coverings 2004 tile, stone and flooring expo will take place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., March 23 - 26. This year's show will feature an expanded educational lineup, and will be held in the newly completed North/South Complex of the Orange County Convention Center. To discuss how these and other changes will affect the 2004 edition of Coverings, National Floor Trends turned for answers to Tamara Christian, president of National Trade Productions (NTP), which will be producing the show for the first time this year.

The 21st annual Cersaie trade show -- which was held Sept. 30 to Oct. 5 in Bologna, Italy -- drew in excess of 97,000 attendees and more than 1,000 exhibitors. These totals represent a slight decrease from attendance at last year's show, a development show organizers attributed to international economic turbulence. Despite the decrease in attendance, business was brisk throughout the show and a wide variety of new ceramic designs highlighted cutting-edge trends in the product segment.
