The International Wood Products Association (IWPA) closed a successful 60th World of Wood Annual Convention at the JW Marriott in Austin, Texas.

The convention saw the passing of the gavel from president Craig Forester, Rex Lumber Co., to Incoming president Bronson Newburger, Clarke Veneers and Plywood. It also saw the election of two new board members, Andy Nuffer, Robinson Lumber Co. and Jordan McIlvain, Alan McIlvain Co.

“I’m excited to take the reins at IWPA and continue our efforts to grow membership, provide much needed resources to members as they tackle due diligence and increase our outreach to organizations that share our dedication to ensuring the health of global forests,” said Newburger. “It’s going to be a busy year and I can’t wait to get started.”

World of Wood hosted dynamic presentations including leadership and coaching strategies from keynote speaker Dean Savoca and critical market updates from Win Thin, global head of emerging markets strategy for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Attendees were also able to get the latest information about Lacey Act compliance and enforcement, proposed formaldehyde regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, due diligence strategies and marketing of sustainably sourced wood products. The convention also hosted IWPA’s semi-annual board meeting and meetings of IWPA’s member-led committees.

According to the association, it saw a 9% growth in attendance over last year's convention in Las Vegas, as it welcomed a diverse group of attendees involved in the global wood products trade.
