MAPEI Americas is entering the concrete admixture market in the U.S. through the acquisition of General Resource Technology (GRT).

GRT will follow its current operating structure, with Travis Collins, GRT vice president, acting as general manager of the subsidiary and reporting directly to Luigi Di Geso, MAPEI president and CEO. The company has two production sites – located in Minneapolis and St. Louis.

“MAPEI Group has been in the admixture business for a long time globally, and GRT will certainly help us move forward in that market in the Americas,” said  Di Geso. By developing synergies with its own product lines, MAPEI expects to expand the GRT footprint east and west in the United States and eventually north into Canada and south into Mexico.  “With the addition to our portfolio of an admixture manufacturer based in the Americas, the growth rate of our Concrete Systems category will increase even more quickly,” Di Geso added. “As our global Underground Tunneling Technology division expands, GRT will provide an important source of highly specialized products for this market as well.”

Established in 1937, MAPEI Group is a privately owned global corporation headquartered in Milan, Italy, with 70 subsidiaries including 64 plants in 31 countries. The company specializes in manufacturing chemical products for building, including waterproofing products, special mortars and admixtures for concrete, products for the restoration of ancient buildings, and special decorative and protective coatings for walls. In addition, MAPEI manufactuers mortars, grouts, adhesives and complementary products for the installation of all types of floor and wall coverings.

Family-owned since it was founded in 1993, GRT markets concrete admixtures and auxiliary products for the concrete industry in the central U.S. GRT continually incorporates the latest product technology available in its efforts to meet customer needs and is focused on continuing the development of next-generation chemical admixture products, according to the company.

“The success of GRT is dependent on our employees and the high level of reliable service they provide to our customers. When we first began talks, we felt very comfortable with the MAPEI philosophy. We feel that MAPEI will help us reach new heights as we all work together to grow the admixtures business into the future,” said Collins.
