Mohawk is one of three finalists for the Clean Tech Innovation Award in the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s E3 Environmental Awards for Atlanta area businesses.
The E3 Awards highlight the companies, organizations and individuals working to conserve metro Atlanta’s natural resources, develop clean technologies to enhance our economy and environment, support sustainable projects and initiatives and to collaborate on solutions through university connections, marketing and education. The finalists will be honored at a special breakfast event at the InterContinental Hotel Buckhead.
Overall, applications from more than 120 companies, organizations and individuals were submitted for seven award categories. Along with Mohawk, Hillphoenix and Novelis are finalists for the Clean Tech Innovation Award. Mohawk is being recognized for its recycling efforts within both its residential and commercial business divisions.
“Mohawk is incredibly honored to be an E3 finalist along with a host of respected Metro-Atlanta area organizations that share our commitment to sustainability,” said Rochelle Routman, director of sustainability for Mohawk Flooring. “Our recycling efforts occur at every stage of the carpet’s life cycle and are a perfect example of our dedication to improving the environment and helping our customers do the same.”
The company is at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing and ranks among the leading recyclers of plastic bottles in North America, which are used to make carpet. Impressively, Mohawk invested $180 million and created 500 new jobs in Northwest Georgia as a result of the patented Continuum™ Process, which is taking Mohawk’s existing plastic bottle recycling efforts to the next level in terms of producing a higher quality product. Continuum is a process designed to create a more sustainable platform and a more satisfied customer. Boasting up to 100 percent recycled content, the production of Mohawk’s PET offerings diverts over three billion bottles from landfills each year.
On the commercial side, over 500 products contain recycled content. Additionally, Mohawk Group’s ReCover program offers its customers an easy way to recycle their old carpet through an established network of reclamation partners across the United States. ReCover helps minimize the depletion of our natural resources by recycling old carpet into new products. Regardless of yardage, yarn, backing or manufacturer, the ReCover program is committed to providing companies with a stress-free process to meet their waste diversion goals.
“Ultimately, ReCover is the right thing to do for the environment and for our customers. We handle all the logistics so they can focus on running their business,” added Routman.
