ProSpec has partnership with Coverings as the sole sponsor of tile setting materials for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), School of Architecture design tiling course – “Mediations on Making– Exploring Furniture Design.
The course instructs students and future designers on the use of tile medium as a source of furniture design and includes a focus on tile installation best practices, specifically around furniture design. Each student will design a bench using tile and stone as its only source material and a jury will select six for construction. The benches will be displayed on the show floor during Coverings for everyone to enjoy these wonderful works of art and will then be part of a silent auction during the show to benefit the Ceramic Tile Education Fund (CTEF) and UNLV.
ProSpec is sponsoring a seventh bench to be constructed, allowing an additional student designer the opportunity to see their design come to life and become part of the ProSpec booth during Coverings.
ProSpec is dedicated to its support of industry education, the Coverings bench project and future tile designers by providing them with valuable, first-hand resources for their class project. As a 2014 sponsor of CTEF, ProSpec is excited that the proceeds of the silent auction will support CTEF and its mission of professional tile installation through training, education and certification.
“We are deeply committed to the tile industry and thrilled to be part of this design project,” said Sean Smith, director of strategic growth for ProSpec. “Our team will provide hands-on instruction of proper tile system design and application best practices and guide the students throughout the process toward a successful project.”
ProSpec PermaFlex 500 was selected for this project because of its superior flexibility, bond strength and durability. ProColor Sanded Tile Grout combined with ProColor StainGuard Grout Additive will be the grout used on the project. ProColor StainGuard Grout Additive provides effortless protection for grouts against stain, mold and mildew. This easy-to-use combination will provide beautiful grout joints without the need to seal the grout. It will ensure the benches remain picturesque and able to withstand the elements of Mother Nature for years to come.
“These students are the future designers and installers of our trade and we’re thrilled to be able to provide them with the guidance and support needed to help make them successful professionals. We hope others see inspiration through this project and it encourages them to join the industry,” added Smith.
