KinetexJ+J Flooring's Kinetex has been selected as one of BuildingGreen’s Top-10 products for the coming year by BuildingGreen, publisher of GreenSpec and Environmental Building News (EBN). The winners were announced over a live BuildingGreen webcast and will be presented at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild convention in Philadelphia on Thursday, Nov. 21. Now in its 12th year, the Top-10 awards go to the most innovative green building products handpicked by BuildingGreen editors from among the hundreds of new and innovative products reviewed over the previous twelve months.

Kinetex is an advanced textile composite flooring that combines key attributes of soft-surface floorcovering with the long-wearing performance characteristics of hard-surfaces. Designed for heavy traffic areas, it is suitable for healthcare, education, hospitality or institutional use. It is highly breathable and can be installed on higher relative humidity (RH) slabs than non-breathable hard flooring.

“We developed Kinetex in response to demand for more flooring options that meet the needs for customers who are focused on green building options that support the practices of evidence-based design,” said Keith Gray, J+J Flooring director of product innovation. “Kinetex has a 50% lower environmental impact compared to other commercial floorings, is manufactured using no less than 50 percent post-consumer recycled content and easily recycled back into itself, much like a plastic soda bottle. In fact, 16% of the total weight is made from recycled PET commonly sourced from plastic beverage containers,” he added. “

Kinetex launched with three versatile patterns, each offering a variety of coordinating colorways that allow the patterns to work together. It is initially available in 24” x 24” modules and is as easy to install as traditional modular carpet. The product’s wear layer is made of abrasion and ravel-resistant knitted polyester fabric (PET). The face is thermally fused to a cushioned backing of polyester felt.

Kinetex meets the rigorous CRI Green Label Plus standards for VOC emissions, and is NSF/ANSI 140 Platinum certified .  J+J Flooring has also completed an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Kinetex which is a transparent disclosure of the full life cycle environmental impact of a product. The results have been verified by independent third party, NSF International, and include environmental impacts from raw materials sourcing, manufacturing, installation, use and end of life.

“The products we’re recognizing this year are remarkable in their diversity and innovation,” said Alex Wilson, founder of BuildingGreen. “We are thrilled to call attention to these products, which are helping to create more sustainable, greener buildings throughout North America.”
