The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council honored outstanding members with scholarships and awards at the 58th annual PWB Spike Club Reception last month at the NAHB International Builders' Show in Las Vegas. Members who exceeded recruitment expectations in 2012 were awarded scholarships that their local councils will use to provide financial assistance to students pursuing degrees relevant to the building industry.

"It's an honor to recognize these award winners for their outreach efforts in recruiting new members to the PWB Council," said 2012 PWB Chair Alicia Huey, who presented the awards. "It is important to share with women in the industry the valuable programs that the council provides, including education, training and networking opportunities."

Bob Cox Professional Women in Building Spike of the Nation Awards

The top recruiter awards are named for Bob Cox, who helped form the member recruitment program in 1963, in recognition of his efforts and longstanding support. For a third year in a row, Carole Jones of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Southeastern Michigan PWB was the council's top recruiter. Jones recruited 29 new council members in 2012. A leader on the local and national level, Jones received a recognition pin from the women's council and a scholarship to be distributed to students in her local community.

The following regional award winners received a scholarship and a recognition pin:

· Northeast Region A: Annemarie Mitchell of Capital Region PWB (New York)

· Southeast Region B: Carol Morgan of the Greater Atlanta PWB

· Midwest Region C: Katie Hallett of the BIA of Southeastern Michigan PWB

· Midwest, Mid-South and Texas Region D: Danielle Breakfield of the Acadian Home Builders PWB

· American West Region E: Donna Wetzel of the California BIA PWB

Professional Women in Building Spike Rookie of the Year

The 2013 award recognized two new PWB members who actively recruited throughout their first year. Deborah Enderli of the Onslow County PWB in North Carolina was honored for sparking significant growth within her local council throughout 2012. Betsy Sheppard of the Greater Atlanta PWB was also recognized for her instrumental role in creating and growing the Atlanta branch.

The awards reception was sponsored by InSinkErator, a business unit of St. Louis-based Emerson Electric Co. InSinkErator remains the PWB Council's exclusive sponsor.
