A sawdust silo fire at Robbins Flooring Mill in Ishpeming Friday tied up firefighters for several hours but caused little damage.
The Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 10:30 a.m., and upon arrival firefighters found light smoke coming from the south silo, Fire Chief Ed Anderson said.
The silo is a large concrete structure about 50 feet high containing sawdust, he said.
The fire was extinguished at about 1 a.m. Saturday, with firefighters remained on scene through the night watching for flair-ups. According to Anderson, the cause of the fire appeared to have been a piece of equipment that entered the silo igniting the sawdust. Read the full story at www.minigjournal.net.
