Custom Building Products has announced the introduction of its CustomTech line of surface preparation products for the flooring industry. The new line, led by its flagship product Silk feathering and patching compound, is engineered specifically for a wide range of flooring applications, including vinyl, wood, laminate and carpet.

“Laminate, wood and vinyl flooring are extremely unforgiving when it comes to subfloors, therefore the surface preparation must be absolutely clean, level and precise. Professional flooring installers can now use CustomTech with the same confidence that tile and stone professionals have had in Custom products for over 40 years,” said Ryan Brausa, Product Manager, Custom Building Products.

Custom is launching CustomTech with two initial products: Silk and GenPatch. Additional CustomTech products will be introduced later in 2012.

Silk Feathering and Patching Compound
Silk is a high-performance feathering and patching product that combines exceptional handling characteristics with high compressive strengths when mixed according to instructions. Silk, when mixed as recommended, has very high workability, while delivering exceptional compressive strength of 3,000 psi, according to the company.

Silk can be used from feather to a depth of 1-inch, and is effective for ramping. Its rapid-set formula makes it ideal for demanding installations with fast turnaround.

GenPatch
In addition to Silk, the CustomTech line of surface preparation products for the flooring industry will also include GenPatch. GenPatch is a fast-setting, calcium aluminate compound that provides a smooth finish on interior and exterior subfloors prior to the installation of a wide variety of floor coverings. Mix with water only to patch and level concrete and plywood up to 2" thick in a single pass, the company said.

When mixed with Patching & Leveling Latex Additive, GenPatch forms an ultra high strength system over ceramic tile, stone, terrazzo, vinyl sheet goods, VCT or cutback adhesive on which to lay new floors. Gen-Patch has been designed with speed in mind, allowing users to install floor coverings in just 30 to 90 minutes depending on ambient conditions.
