CMH Flooring Products, based in Wadesboro, N.C., said it has purchased fellow distributor Space Flooring, based in Smyrna, Ga. Plans call for Space Flooring to continue operating as a separate entity. Additionally, Kent Goodman will stay on as president of Space. Other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Our companies complement each other. I look forward to working with Kent and his entire team," said Hoy Lanning, CEO of CMH. "Kent and I couldn’t be happier regarding the possibility for sharing the strengths of our businesses and believe that this move could be especially judicious during these economic times.”
While a range of products are shared by both companies, certain products "such as Congoleum" will remain exclusives to the respective distributors, Lanning added.
Goodman also said the companies were a good fit. "Space will definitely benefit from this affiliation with CMH. The owners of CMH are a great group of business professionals and our combined staffs have decades of experience that will benefit both established and new customers,” he said.
CMH Flooring Products and Space Flooring have a combined history of 58 years in the industry. They are widely recognized as two of the nation’s leading distributors of premier residential and commercial flooring products. Their customers include national chains, large and small independent flooring retailers, installation base companies, commercial flooring contractors and architects and designers. In 2007, sales for both firms totaled $175 million.
