Mohawk: Building a Better Community One Person at a Time
As the world’s largest flooring provider, Mohawk Industries is committed to setting the industry’s standard for sustainable products, processes, and practices. Sustainability is a strategic business imperative that is embedded throughout Mohawk’s operations. The approach is both ambitious and aggressive, as Mohawk aims to reduce energy use, water use, landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25 percent before the year 2020.
All of these initiatives are important, but none of it is possible without the right people in place. With this in mind, Mohawk formed one of its most strategic partnerships in 2001. The company joined the fight against breast cancer, a disease that claims more than 40,000 lives each year, and teamed up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to raise money for breast cancer research. It has been, without a question, one of Mohawk’s most important corporate investments.
Mohawk’s campaign with Komen for the Cure began as a commercial carpet program known as Specify for the Cure. Interior designers specify select Mohawk carpets, and in turn, the company donates up to $.25 per square yard unit to Komen. Specify for the Cure is now entering its tenth year, and has raised almost $4 million-funds that have saved countless lives.
Given the success of Specify for the Cure, Mohawk recently expanded its partnership with Komen for the Cure to include the residential carpet business. In July, Mohawk launched the Decorate for the Cure campaign, committing to donate $.02-$.15 per yard SmartCushion™ by Mohawk sales and Karastan® KaraStep™ Reserve sales to Komen, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $100,000 through 2012. Although still new, Decorate for the Cure is already making a big impact. Customers are excited to support this effort and it is helping retailers grow their brand in the local community.
