Florida Tile continues to expand its Creating A Responsible Environmental Strategy (CARES) by utilizing the national CSX Intermodal Transportation Network of trains and local carriers.

“Where warranted, Florida Tile will now use the intermodal system instead of shipping full truckloads directly to our distributors,” said Sean Cilona, Marketing Director. “This is another part of our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint at every point along the distribution chain from manufacturing to sales.”

“Shipping by rail over long distances has been proven to generate far fewer carbon gas emissions than by truck,” Cilona said. “In the near future, a distributor’s full truckload of Florida Tile products will be shipped a majority of the distance by rail to a local CSX yard, then delivered to its final destination by truck carriers,” Cilona added.

He added, “By implementing this rail-and-truck method, everyone in the Florida Tile retail chain can share in the story, knowing that our intermodal initiative reduces air and noise pollution as well as road traffic, saves on fuel costs, limits the impact on the nation’s overall infrastructure, reduces breakage and loss and allows for shipping every day of the week and in every kind of weather.”

The Florida Tile CARES initiative (Creating A Responsible Environmental Strategy) is a longstanding, ongoing corporate-wide program to lessen the company’s carbon footprint. This includes continuous reductions in the waste stream that have lead to partnerships with local and national non-profits, recycling in our production process, sourcing raw materials that contain recycled content.
