Shaw Floors announced today that the company’s entire hardwood product line has met stringent criteria to become Cradle to Cradle Silver Certified. The third-party certification recognizes the eco-friendly processes and content used to create Shaw’s nearly 120 solid and engineered hardwood products, according to the company.

Shaw’s engineered EPIC hardwood floors are produced using 50 percent less newly harvested wood, and the product’s dense inner layer called EnviroCore is uniquely created to use recycled wood fiber. Additionally, Shaw’s solid hardwood floors are crafted using sustainably harvested wood from US certified forests, and Shaw’s Grand Canyon hardwood is an 8" solid plank made entirely from hand-picked mill byproducts.

“Ensuring that each Shaw hardwood floor earns Silver level Cradle to Cradle certification is one more demonstration of the high value we set on sustainable design and production,” said Scott Sandlin, Shaw vp hard surfaces. “Our customers can be proud that the Shaw hardwood products they place in their homes, whether engineered or solid in construction, are created using processes that support a healthier planet and, once installed, will contribute to a healthier home environment.”

Cradle to Cradle is a comprehensive quality rating system for the assessment and continuous improvement of products based on five categories: Safe and appropriately sourced materials, Material reutilization, Renewable energy, Water quality, and Social responsibility.

“The tenets of sustainable, responsible design are a fundamental part of our product design, development and manufacturing processes,” said Paul Murray, vp sustainability. “Cradle to Cradle informs that approach, serving as both a road map for the continuous improvement of our products and processes, and giving our customers the assurance that choosing Shaw hardwood means choosing products that meet world-class standards for sustainable design.”

Many Shaw hardwood floors are additionally GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute. For additional information about MBDC certification, visitwww.mbdc.com.To learn more about Shaw’s hardwood products visitshawfloors.com/hardwood-floors.
