American Olean creates custom mural for learning center
American Olean recently produced a custom-designed mural for a local Challenger Center in Olean, NY. The Challenger Centers are 48 hands-on science and math learning centers across the nation based on the Challenger Space Mission.
The American Olean design department designed the waterjet-cut, 23' by 13' mural installed on the outside of the building. The artists/designers used 1 by 1 tiles and 2 by 2 mosaics in a variety of colors. The mural took about two weeks to install, and three weeks to design and create the tile.
"This was a unique experience for me because since the Challenger Center is located near our plant in Olean, I was able to tour the site for inspiration," explained Emily Hurlburt, American Olean design department supervisor & artist. "Now, I am able to ride my bike two miles down the road and see the giant mural that my coworkers and I created as a team. This makes the experience very rewarding for me."
