Shaw Industries Group Inc. has announced that it will close Plant 82, a spun yarn facility in Chatsworth, Ga. The closure will affect approximately 306 workers. Shaw said that during the next 90 days, it will work with employees to offer positions to all hourly associates who choose to remain with the company.
The plant is closing in response to customers largely moving away from staple yarn systems to products manufactured with filament yarn, Shaw said.
Shaw is providing immediate support to assist affected employees and will deploy its Central Hiring Office resources to match displaced employees with openings at other Shaw locations. Shaw is also partnering with the Georgia Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Team to provide on-site one-on-one sessions to counsel associates, explain benefits, and provide out-placement and retraining.
