Välinge has has been awarded US 7, 811,489, a patent that protects a method of recycling old laminate floor panels. The company's method, developed in 2007, mechanically cuts old panels into small particles that are mixed with binders, which are pressed and formed into a sheet-shaped material.
This recycled sheet-shaped material could be used as a core in a new traditional laminate floor panel or a powder based WFF floor panel, according to Välinge. Old laminate floors could also be milled to wood powder and used as raw material in the surface layer of a new WFF floor panel based on the Välinge powder technology.
Välinge said it will apply a "very flexible" licensing model to encourage the industry to use the Välinge recycling method.
