Green Guide: W.F. Taylor
Taylor 2091 Tuff Grip TPS Transitional Pressure Sensitive Adhesive is the most versatile high performance vinyl and rubber flooring adhesive available in the flooring industry today. Originally developed and sold for tile-over-tile installations, Taylor 2091 has evolved since its inception into the multifunctional product it is today.
Utilizing Taylor’s unique and patented Meta-Tec® technology, Taylor 2091 incorporates renewable resource raw materials, advanced property components, and one part reactive cross-linking chemistry to create very high strength waterproof bonds while maintaining Taylor’s historical focus on environmentally safe products. Taylor 2091 is certified by the GREENGUARD® Environmental Institute and under the Carpet & Rug Institute Green Label Plus program for low VOC content, thus ensuring excellent indoor air quality, and qualifying for a LEED® credit under the USGBC rating system. Taylor 2091 meets all local, municipal, and state regulations for indoor air quality.
When initially spread, Taylor 2091 dries to a very aggressive pressure sensitive state to allow for installation of non-porous resilient flooring over non-porous subfloors. These non-porous substrates include existing resilient flooring, sealed concrete or terrazzo. As the 2091 cures, the high strength peel bond “transitions” to a high shear strength bond. This unique transitional property offers excellent holding power against lateral flooring movement. High shear strength is not characteristic of typical pressure sensitive adhesives.
Adding to its versatility, Taylor 2091 may also be used in a wet or semi-wet state. This allows the repositionability that is necessary for excellent installations of resilient sheet goods. Typical pressure sensitive adhesives must be used only in a dry state, which does not facilitate repositionability.
Taylor 2091 may be used to install luxury & solid vinyl tile and plank, vinyl composition tile, homogeneous vinyl sheet goods, vinyl encapsulated cork and vinyl encapsulated wood flooring, and rubber tile & sheet goods over both porous and non-porous surfaces. Excellent plasticizer migration resistance and alkali resistance allows for superior installations of a broad variety of resilient flooring products. Taylor 2091 also contains Meta-Sept® Anti-Microbial, a proprietary broad spectrum anti-microbial agent that protects against the growth of bacteria, mold and fungi in both the wet adhesive and the cured adhesive film, contributing to a healthy flooring installation and environment.
A favorite with installers and contractors because of its ease of use as well as its high performance characteristics, Taylor 2091 spreads very easily, has low odor, features a long open time, is freeze/thaw stable, and cleans up very easily.
