Shaw Industries Group, Inc. has announced the transfer of
its controlling interest in Nylon Polymer Company LLC, based in Augusta, Georgia,
to Royal DSM N.V., which was previously Shaw’s joint venture partner in the
Nylon Polymer Company. DSM will now own
complete control of the polymerization facility that produces nylon polymer.
“The
transaction is a clear win for both companies,” stated Hal Long, executive vice
president of operations for Shaw. “DSM has a need for additional nylon
polymerization capacity for engineering plastics. Shaw was able meet their
needs through our excess capacity.”
“This
transfer has absolutely no impact on Shaw’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility,
its caprolactam production or other assets on site in Augusta,” Long stated.
The
Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility is used by Shaw to recycle post consumer
carpet into caprolactam for the production of new nylon fiber. Shaw is the
recognized leader is post consumer carpet reclamation and recycling which is a
core element of its Shaw Green Edge sustainability strategy.
