Carpet cushion and underlayment maker Healthier Choice said that all of its products now use BiOH, a soy-based polyol developed by Cargill. The chemical is derived from a natural, renewable resource and is designed to replace the use of petroleum in the manufacturing process, according to the company.

Mike Norton, Healthier Choice’s vp of commercial products and technical services, called the move the company’s “latest and most significant step” to reducing its environmental footprint. “The incorporating of this recently introduced soy-based polyol into our products represents a breakthrough following years of research and development by our company,” he added.

Based in Dalton, Ga., Healthier Choice offers “the only Greenguard-certified carpet cushion available in the industry,” the company said. Additionally, Healthier Choice products feature “virtually no offgassing and register the lowest emissions in the industry.”

Healthier Choice plans to exhibit at Surfaces, at booth #6145.
