Dallas-based company ElkCorp, a division of Elk Specialty Fabric Technologies, has entered the flooring market with VersaShield underlayment. Designed for use under carpets and carpet tiles, VersaShield aims to eliminate moisture and the possibility of mold.

"Elk's commitment to non-toxic barriers for consumer use now extends from fire barrier fabrics for home goods to the flooring industry," said Robert Pine, Elks Specialty Fabric Technologies executive vp. "We will continue to bring new barrier products to the marketplace, providing solutions for both moisture control and fire resistance."

VersaShield underlayment is offered in 36" by 180' and 72" by 90' rolls. The company plans to expand the line with products for use under ceramic tile, laminate flooring and hardwood, the company noted. VersaShield underlayment carries a 10-year limited warranty.
