Aiming to enhance operations and provide better service to customers, Mohawk Industries has realigned its Mohawk residential and commercial flooring businesses into two strategic business units (SBUs) which will be headed by Mohawk Group president Monte Thornton.

"Our intent is to develop a structure that allows Mohawk employees to best utilize their skills, increase responsiveness, and contribute to Mohawk's overall success," said Jeff Lorberbaum, chairman and CEO of Mohawk. Within the Residential SBU, Tom Lape will be responsible for sales and marketing functions. Frank Peters will lead carpet and yarn manufacturing, product development and planning. The unit also includes hard surfaces. Within the Commercial Flooring SBU, Jim McCallum will head sales and marketing. Jim Prettyman will be responsible for carpet manufacturing, product development and planning.

Both SBUs will also include customer operations and support functions.

Overall operations will be led by Joe Yarbrough, with responsibilities for extrusion, distribution, backing, and cushion. Operations processes will also include engineering, recycling, samples, purchasing, environmental and other support functions.

"By focusing on both strategies for internal improvements and synergistic acquisitions, Mohawk can continue to exceed customer expectations in terms of value, service and product lines," Lorberbaum said.
