Vincent Ferrante Jr., who worked as a carpet installer for his father's Travis-based Ideal Flooring Contractors business, died on the Staten Island ferry that crashed into a concrete pier Oct. 15.

Ferrante was born June 27, 1977 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, and grew up in Canarsie. When his family moved to Little Clove Road in the Sunnyside section of Staten Island in 1982, Ferrante started school at PS 29 in Castleton Corners. He graduated from Curtis High School in 1995. Growing up, he played for Mid-Island Little League and in recent years played softball with friends and co-workers. After graduation, he started working for his father's business.

In addition to his parents, Ferrante is survived by a brother, Damien; sisters, Nicole and Geri, and grandparents, Beverly Motrechuk and Mary Ferrante.
