Tukwila, Wash.-based distributorship Sound Floor Coverings Inc. has been acquired by Kraus Carpet Mills Ltd., a privately held Canadian manufacturer and distributor of carpet and carpet fiber.

Sound will continue to operate as a separate entity with its current management team remaining in place. Kraus produces residential and commercial carpet for the U.S., international and Canadian markets, and owns carpet-manufacturing operations in Dalton, Ga., and Australia as well as a main facility in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Kraus also owns Canadian distributor W.G. McMahon and, through its Strudex fibers division, supplies nylon and polypropylene yarn to the carpet industry.

Sound Floor Coverings was founded in 1947 and has been owned and operated by the Chick family. The company sells and services floor covering retailers in a six-state region of the Pacific Northwest, as well as Utah and Alaska.
